Hi Lila

Have a look at this old maps site at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/  Go through the gazetteer on to Perthshire and then the alpha listing of place names which includes Dalvanie.

Regards.

Monica

Hi Lila,

Try streetmap and search for Dalvanie.  I know that Glen Isla is to the north of Kirriemuir in Angus.  When I searched I found Glen Isla House just south of Dalvanie.

Hope this helps.

Lila
The Downie of Dalvanie family tree is very well documented. I beleive you are part of the North Shields branch. I'm part of the Newbiggin branch via Alnwick.
The Dalvanie connection can be traced back to 1725 but unfortunately no further.
The Downies were in Northumberland from 1750 or so.
I would be very interested in hearing from you and I could copy the part of the family history relevant to you.

To see the location of Dalvanie Mill go to: www.letsgothere.co.uk/lgtnet/attraction/0035323-map.aspx
If you also Google, Dalvanie, you'll find a site showing a photograph.

I've now found Dalvanie on the Old Maps site which Monica mentioned.
Go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/  Choose Co-ordinate and enter 318701,765902. Click Search and you'll see Dalvanie in the middle.

Re Dalvanie  in Glenisla. The postal address would be Dalvanie Folda Glenisla By Alyth Perthshire PH11. The house is in the top half of the glen. Sorry can't help re Downie family as I have only spent holidays there since the fifties. Have you tried the Glenisla cemetery. I think any records would be in the Perth Library. Hope this is of help
