Wistaston Hall ~ Wistaston
« on: Monday 25 September 06 11:53 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anybody know anything about Wistaston Hall especially when it was built? I know that it was once the home of the Walthall family for many generations.

I'm also interested in Wistaston Manor House (it's the 'Ye Old Manor') which isn't that far away from Wistaston Hall.

Any info would be rally appreciated ~ Jayon

Hi John

Yes, this is the place.  The link you gave says that Wistaston Hall was built in the 17th century so this has really helped to clear up one mystery.

I'm hoping now that somebody will know something about Wistaston Manor, which is now a pub on the main road to crewe.

Thanks again - Jayson  ;)

Just google Wistaston Manor or Hall and you will find details, I know as I read about the Manor and Mill last night.

Hi John

I have googled Wistaston Manor before & found the information very interesting as it mentions the nearby mill.  However it does not give me any clues as to who lived at the Manor before the Bayley family in the 1600s.

Very many thanks - Jayson

Hi glen o

I've been told that the meals there are excellent & really good value. I've been meaning to pop down there myself.

The poet John Milton married a lady by the name of Elizabeth Minshull who was from a family that lived nearby at Wells Green.  I found an interesting article written in 1978 by chap who believed that Milton took shelter there when the Commonwealth period ended.

Three years later.....
My grandparents used to live in The Grange, the converted stable block of Wistaston Hall; hence my interest. The link below gives a little information, but I am looking for information about the Hall too.
