Wistaston Hall was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Sir William de Wistanstune took it over c1250-1425 and then the Walthall family took it over in 1603.
It was rebuilt following a fire in 1802.
It was purchased in 1943 by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate who I think still own it.

Wistaston Manor was built in the early 17th century. I don't know what it was built as but I am sure it was never the 'manor house' for Wistaston - that was always Wistaston Hall. It may have been a farm which included the mill. In the late 1800's it was part of the Willaston Hall estate under the Bayleys. The Wistaston Church pew allocations for 1828 show James Bayley as of Mill Farm.

Hope this adds a bit more.

I've often wondered myself why Wisatson Manor became known as such.  Past and recent publications I've meet with over the years always refer to it as Wistaston Manor.  However, in the various Bayley wills it's referred to simply as "Mill Farm".

In the 1664 Hearth Tax returns it was listed as having 3 hearths.  A decade on it had 4 hearths & a mill.
