Richard Peake living in Galway 1925-COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 26 September 06 20:03 BST (UK) »
My Grandparents were living in Dublin in 1916. Whilst in Dublin my Grandfather was the Master of his Masonic Lodge. I know that the family were living at 7, Mary Street, Galway in 1925. Dad was a pupil at Galway Grammar School. Does Mary Street still exist? Is the house still standing? If it is, if there is a RootsChat member living in Galway would they please be kind enough to take a picture of the house and post it on the board. Would there be a street directory for Galway at that time which would be similar to the north of Ireland directories of the time .. ie listing householders and their occupations.

Hi Chris:
Don't have a pic of the building but the street is still there. Looks like a very small one, maybe a block long.  Here is a business at number 13. http://www.galway.net/galwayguide/showyp.shtml?id=423

From some googling, it seems the area is quite trendy now.

If no one takes you up on the photo request, perhaps a phone call to one of the businesses will work.

Hi Christopher,

I'll be in Galway on the 19th and I'll try to take a photo for you.   I'll be visiting the library, checking on directories etc.  Please let me know if I can check anything else!

Hi crabby,

Many thanks for sparing the time to take those photos.

They give me a good idea of where the family lived.

I like todays bright colour schemes of those Galway houses.

Good day to you Christopher, i am sorry for hi-jaking you threadbut i to would be interested to know if Galway has any Historical directory's for 1890 to 1922? or an electrol roll for the same years and to push it just a little more maybe an Absent voters list for 1918 . I have tried emailing Galway library many time but as yet i still have had no reply.
Migky ;)
