Laois vs. Queens

Can someone please explain to me the connection between Laois and Queens?  I'm afraid I know nothing, and couldn't find it on the internet.  I have someone on a census b. "Queens Co Ireland";  is that the same as Co.Laois?  By the way, how do you pronounce it?

Hello Loo.

Yes they are both one and the same place, called Queens
when under english rule, the name is Laois pronounced
'lace'.

Hello, just joined the forum so hope you don't mind if I butt in.

We traced my ancestors back to Laoighis, Queens County.  Our Delaney's came from a place called Ballinakill, Laoighis, QC and I've been over there to visit the town.

Can I ask what name(s) you're researching from there?
