James/Sarah Sharp
« on: Thursday 28 September 06 07:36 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,
I have James, wife Sarah and part family on both 1891 and 1901 census returns but they are all completely missing on the 1881 census.
I have tried Sharpe (with an E) as well as Sharp to no avail.
James was a Bargeman and often travelled with some family members on board from Goole into East/West Yorks via canal/rivers.

  Any ideas anyone please.

Hi Fred.....

Can you give some idea of when James and Sarah were born , and where ?

What were the names of the children and ages on 1891 census ?

With a bit more info , we may be able to help you .....

Kind Regards

Hi Wendy,
Yes, that is the family, thankyou.

Jeannie, James and Sarah were born at Goole, as were most of the children, there are others older that have gone by this time.
    Do you have enough info?.

I can only suspect that the name Sharp has been misquoted in 1881, how beats me.

Can you post the details of the older children if any of them were born before the 1881 census.

Hi Wendy,
As sure as I can be, there was:-

     Sarah Ann b 1873 at Hook/Goole
     Lauretta  b 1875  "   "    "
     Charles   b 1877  at Barnsley.!!!!

William who is on the list was also born at Barnsley, this may give us a clue as to where they all were in 1881.

I have just digested this information from an email, a friend in New Zealand who does better than I could ever do and I have yet to include the info she gathers into my files. (what files LOL)

          Thank you for helping.

Fred

Do we know when James married Sarah?

If so do we have a maiden name?

Hi again Fred.......

I have been searching for your family , on the 1881 census, for most the week .... I hate to admit defeat !! and I will keep trying.....

But here they are in 1871......

Oaks....."Hope" 85 tons . Ardsley  (Near Barnsley ?)

James Sharp / head / age 24 / boatman / born Goole
Sarah Sharp / wife / age 25 / born Nafferton / Hufferton ?
Caroline Sharp / daughter / age 3 / born Goole

It is not much of a salve , I am afraid .......

Now ....another go at the 1881 !!

Best wishes ,

JeannieR

Hi Jeannie,
Thank you for your efforts and the 1871 details, I don't think I had seen that entry.

"Oaks....."Hope" 85 tons . Ardsley  (Near Barnsley ?)"

  Is this a boat/ship Jeannie?

 Wendy,
I thought I had sent you details of James and Sarah earlier this evening but it's not showing, anyway here we are:- James Sharp married Sarah E Kay in Jly/Aug/Sept quarter 1866 at Goole.

Me 'eds buzzing after some hours of searching this evening, not getting much further but finding some obscure family members. Thats the trouble with big families and both Sanderson's Welham and Sharp had a few.!!

  Cheers, Fred
