MOODY family Leytonstone/Wanstead/West Ham/Shoreditch

Looking for Moodys in these areas in the 19th century:

They were wafer paper makers and sometime fairground showmen on Wanstead Flats and the surrounding area.

I know of George Benjamin MOODY (born c. 1850) who married Eliza Charlotte BOWMAN in 1873  (Bowmans were a family from Bath).

George's father was William MOODY.

I cannot pick up anything else about them barring 1881 census.  Any information, please?

Les.

Hi there Les

I was reading a family history publicaton the other day and came across "The National Fairground Archive" which is a unique collection dedicated to those who made their living as entertainers, fairfolk or show people.

Their address is:
Main Library, University of Sheffield, Western Bank, Sheffield. S10 2TN (visits by appointment only)

www.shef.ac.uk/nfa

Telephone - 0114 222 7231
e-mail - fairground@sheffield.ac.uk

It was established in 1994 and contains some 80,000 photographs as well as show programmes, posters and charters relating to the numerous shows staged by various entertainment companies.

Could be worth a try
