Thompsons in Kirkudbright again
« on: Tuesday 03 October 06 10:56 BST (UK) »
Still looking for elusive Thompson said to be from Kircudbright.
His name is Henry Jamieson Thompson born about 1875 , was married in 1902 in Derby to a  Mabel Chisholme Storer, but I can find no trace of him further back.  Family legend says Kircudbright roots. Wife is from Bedfordshire so not her unless it's the Chisholme part.  Anybody found him.  Can't find him anywhere in English records barr the marriage and later.

Hi Duckweed

There are only two Henry J (John/James) Thom*son born in all of Scotland between 1870-80....neither in Kirkcudbright. Also no Henry (without middle name) born in Kirkcudbright between 1874-76.

Regards.

Monica

This is the closest, from IGI, the only entry in Kirkcudbright:

HENRY JAMIESON  20 JUL 1861      Kirkpatrick Durham, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
Parents: Mother: SARAH JAMIESON

May not be connected. However, there is a female birth in Borgue, Kircudbright for a  xxx Jamieson Thomson in 1902. Probably worthwhile waiting to see what the father's name is on Henry's MC so that you can then check if the family could have been in Kircudbright around that time.

Regards.

Monica

I just thought to check to SP, there's an 8 year old Henry Thomson showing in Bargrennan, Kirkcudbright in the 1901 Census...?

Not sure if there's a family connection but would have thought the combination wasn't all that common as Thompson is the english spelling of the name and therefore rare in Scotland usually comes from Durham Newcastle way.  I found a John Thompson who married a Mary Jamieson in Newcastle but there's no real reason why there should be a connection except that I've seen a number of Scottish Thompsons in Newcastle who were in the navy.  As Kircudbright is a port there could be a connection but I'm fantasising at present because I've no hard evidence to link it all up.

The Thompsons from Kirkcudbright are in my family tree. My ggggrandmother was Janet Thompson, so now its used as a middle name. I'll go back in my records and look for Henry. Janet married Homer Campbell and thats my direct line.

Sorry after all my struggles, it turns out that the Kircudbright connection is on the female side and so not Thompson.  It was a Mary Jamieson who married a Stephen Thompson in Lancaster.  The Thompson was from Milnthorpe Westmoreland. So much for family legends.

Also Janet Thompsons father was Adam Thompson and her mother was Agnes Forrest Thompson. Got all this from the Scotspeoples. My 3rth great grandfather was named for Adam Thompson. He was a twin, his brothers name I believe is Robert. Adam Thompson Campbell was my 3rd great.

highlandmyst, My 4th great grandfather was Homer Campbell married to Janet Thompson. I think we are related some how. Would love to know what you know and vice versa. I have many pictures of Homer.
