we certainly have a research connection going on here.

your john born in 1859 was the brother of edwin, they are the sons of john and ann davies, who's brother rossier, turns up in one of the  cenuses.

Hello
It seems you were researching one of my family connections Edwin Smith - we are related to his brother John Smith (1859 - 1883).

Did you find any details on him, such as marriage or children that we can add to our family tree?
We can also give you details to expand any information that you may be missing of him.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to roots chat,

Yes he is in the family I am researching but I haven't done much with Edwin.  I think I have him in 1911 where he is a coal miner hewer. He is married to Elizabeth and has 5 children one of whom Philip is also a miner.

John Smith 1859-1883 is my point of interest so if you have info that would be very helpful. I believe he was the son of James Smith 1821-1881 and Ann Davies 1822-1891.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Abiam2 :)

Just to pick up on the "boatman" bit - there was a ferry across the Taff between Nantgarw and Rhydfelen - the area is still known as Upper Boat
