Librarians aren't supposed to give out details of members but you could try looking in telephone directory to see if anyone with that surname is still in the area. Also, what about contacting church the family attended to see if there's any information in the records. (not sure where the Fermanagh connection comes in but presumably you have information which shows the Donegans were in Fermanagh).

The librarians don't need to give any information to Leslie ... there's nothing to stop them telling people named Donegan about Leslie's search.

I think that my Donegans may have originally come from County Fermanagh, hence the posting.
It's possible then that the Donegan connection in Fermanagh goes back to pre- civil registration.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello Paul,

Welcome to RootsChat.

It may well be the same person.

There can't have been too many Donegans named Stafford.

Hello Paul,

I believe that it is the same person who died on 1st July 1916 and is buried at Serre Road Cemetry No. 2.  Unfortunately, I do not know his wife's maiden name nor that of any of their children.

I am the grandson of Albert Edward Donegan and my mother, Laura, is still alive at the age of 91 years.  She recollects that Charles may have moved from Lisburn to live in County Fermanagh where she thought that the Donegan family originally came from.

Please PM me if you think that we may be related.

Thanks for the replies. There is only one S Donegan on the War Graves site so it must be him; unfortunately there is no DOB. My father was also Samuel and from Lisburn; DOB 24/10/1912. I intend to get his  and his fathers Birth Certificates and go from there.

Hi,
I have done a bit of checking and the dates in your initial posting appear to be about 10 years out.
I can confirm what the others have found and add:-

Stafford Donegan married Annie Coates on 1 May 1909 in Christchurch C of I, Blaris Lisburn.

Looking at census information there appear to be many Donegans in Fermanagh. In 1901 they were concentrated in the parishes of Clones and Galloon.

Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh

Hello kingskerswell,

Thank you for your reply.

When you say that I might be 10 years out, do you mean that my dates in the initial posting are 10 years, or thereabouts, later or earlier than what you think that they ought to be?
