Sarah Brant Hopwood
« on: Tuesday 10 October 06 15:30 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Hi,

Can anyone help me with this brickwall.

I have a Sarah Brant Hopwood born in Farnham in about 1846. In 1861 she appears to be living with an Aunt and Uncle in Farnham. Her wedding certificate to Jonathan Sainsbury gives her father as what looks like James Hopwood, bootmaker. Witnesses at the wedding were Joseph and Rosetta Hopwood. They in 1861 were living in Farnham, they were born in 1837 and 1835 and would appear to be her peers rather than her parents.

I can't find my Sarah's birth under Brant or Hopwood. She is a total mystery. Can anyone see her in Farnham in 1851?

Best wishes

Many thanks SC Roppers.

Since I posted I'd managed to find them in 1851. I wonder if she was the daughter of an elder daughter or of a son. I can't get my head around the Brant name. I've just had a look in the births on Ancestry under Brant, there is a Sarah Brant in Wokingham at the end of 1845 ( I haven't taken a note as I plan to go back later). Two teenage daughters are in a queue to get me off the computer!

Thank you for all your help. One lead can always set the tree in motion!

Best wishes

The Sarah Brant birth is in Dec quarter 1845, in Wokingham ref I think is V1 278 - sorry was looking at it and was about to post it as a possible and got sidetracked watching Countdown, when I came back this post had moved on and it looks like this is definitely her, but I can hardly read my writing on the scrap of paper!!

Well it wasnt a Brant cos if you look in that quarter for Brant the only one marrying in Wokingham is a Harriett with a different ref no.

Just dwelling on this for a mo, if she was registered at birth as a Brant, but gave her father's name at marriage as Hopwood, (and we know she didnt completely make up the father because she IS a grandaughter of the Hopwoods) then her mother would be a Brant. And does that mean that the Hopwood family somewhere have another son, a James?
Just thinking aloud.

ANd the fact that there is a Harriet Brant's marriage in Wokingham same time as Jane Hopwood's indicates there is a Brant family around in the area.
Perhaps we need to look for them???...
