margaret quick - kilkenny
« on: Thursday 12 October 06 14:16 BST (UK) »
I have been trying for any information on Margaret QUICK b 1840 in Kilkenny.  No idea of parents names, only information I have is she emigrated to Australia (don't know the year) and she married Ruebin Walker, who she met on the boat, they were married in Sydney New South Wales in 1864, I can't find the marriage on nsw bmd nor can I find any information on IGI, any help would be appreciated.

Hello Barb,

What demomination was Margaret Quick?

You'll also need to establish the parish and townland where she lived as you'll have to rely on Church records since civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

No I have not seen a record of her as Quirk.  I had never heard of surname QUICK until I saw your query. Checked my 05 area phonebook. Only  2 entries under surname Quick, but a column of Quirk/Quirke. I saw on another query where surname NESS had been recorded as HESS.    .Checked  Griffiths Valuation for all Kilkenny, no Quicks .    Griffiths Valuation date approx 1850 but it only includes property owners.   Checked census 1901 and 1911  for Quicks in Kilkenny, None there. Some in other counties .and their religious denominations vary.
