1827 birth look up in lewes please

Hi,
I'm trying to find out who JOHN WESTGATE born about 1827 in lewes, parents were.
i have found him in the census and his birth varies from 1826 to 1833(i think he may have lied later in life about his age because his second wife was quite a bit younger )
in 1841 he is 14  and living in Brighton but not with family.
any help greatly received

As you know he married twice then getting the marriage certificates would give you his father's name.   Once you have that you can look for a marriage on the Sussex Marriage Index for pre 1837 marriages.   All BMd s are free to search on www.ancestry.co.uk    Make sure you look at the complete version not the FreeBMD one, though that might be a good place to start in case it has has been indexed on there.
Alternatively, if you are not near enough to Lewes Record Office,  you can get the films of the various parish registers in Lewes to search at your nearest LDS centre and look for a baptism.  They are listed on www.familysearch.org and are worldwide.

This is only a possiblilty.  First of all, a question for you.  You say he married twice - was his second wife Frances Kenward?

If the answer is yes, then his parents may be John Westgate and Sarah Terry, married Lewes, St Anne 19 April 1823.  I can't find a baptism for him at the moment.  You do need to get a certificate to find his father's name.

thanks for the advice,i was hoping i could find his birth record in the parish records so i wouldn't have to buy another cert(I've spent a small fortune on them already )but i think the only way forward now is to get his marriage cert.

i now have the marriage cert
26 march 1876 
john westgate's father is recorded as john westgate(deceased).
so looks like the info Nell found could be the parents
just got to find birth record to confirm this now
