Hi,

My Grt-Grt Grandfather James Gordon (born c1839 Dundee - died before 1890) was entered on his wedding certificate as a sailor.  I have traced the family through the censuses, but he was never at home on census night.  Are there any records of sailor's for this period?

His wife was Helen Hay and they married 1860.  The children appear regularly at two year intervals.

His father was James Gordon, mother Mary Ann Nash.

I would be grateful for any information.
