Campton Parish Registers - HAYES
« on: Saturday 30 September 06 10:49 BST (UK) »
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but has anyone access to Campton parish records.
I am looking for details on James Hayes family.
There seems to be conflict between his family on HO107/1753/711 page 10 and RG9 / 997 / 22 Page 8 ( thats if they are the same family )
My main interest is in the family with David Hayes in HO107.
Can anyone throw any light on this issue

                            Thanks Kath

Pre or post 1812? Post 1812 not on the IGI are usually only available on microfilm from the LDS or at BLARS, unless they're on the BVRI (which Campton isn't)

Seen the other threads now so assume it's post 1812

Thanks Susan will be a great help. Could you tell me where you went to look them all up ( was it at the local FHS or a library or Archive office in Bedfordhire.

I have a daughter who lives in Arlesey which is not far from Campton and I may be able to travel down at some stage and do a bit of local research if I know where to look.

                                     Once again many thanks  Kath

Morning, glad it may help.
I went to Luton library who hold all the fiches for Beds P/Registers......is closer for me than Bedford CRO who also hold them and some up to a later date but just an odd one I think.
So in answer to your question Beds CRO hold them also Bedford library. The website for Beds CRO as follows is very useful for looking at what they hold. Is possible that a library nearer to your daughter might hold some including Campton. I am going next Wednesday (all being well) to the CRO for myself so can do a lookup there if you are after something specific.
Would seem you need a marriage for James to Mary..these being Davids parents? I will look at 1841/1851 post that you did which I ought to have done before.!!!

Morning Susan, I am so thrilled with the info you have supplied me with so. After putting it all together on a tree it looks like there are either 3 or 4 families from the 1800 - 1830.
John = Eleanor James = Rebecca , James = Clark ( who died ) and James = Mary, infact the last two James could be the same ones.
You are correct I really could do with the marriage details of James and Mary and I would be very grateful if you were able to locate them.I am also fascinated by the way James / Mary's family names have come about with Reuben and Ebenezer added amongst the more traditional names.
In the meantime thanks again, you have managed to take me back another generation with James and Mary. Best wishes Kath

Hi Susan,  Just checking - are you sure the Bedford central library has fiches of the PRs from 1812 onwards - I've always had to go to the Archives for that.  But then I've never asked at the library if they do have them.

On the Beds library website & on a 'family tree' handout it says that microfiche of PRs 1812-1982 are available at Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Biggleswade, & Flitwick libraries, for a selection of parishes in each area.

Could be wrong John.......am getting into that stage of not remembering too well. I do recall going to Beds library quite a few years ago and almost sure  it was to look at P/R fiches. I cannot think what else I might have been hunting all those years ago being a beginner at that time. What I do remember is that on my first visit there I was able to go on a reader and on my second found out I had to book. Have never returned to Bedford library as one can visit the CRO......park for free and not book. As you point out Dunstable, L/Buzzard.....I cannot vouch for Biggleswade and Flitwick.......have fiches for a few surrounding parishes. I can say as far as Dunstable and L/Buzzard they have the books with the extracted entries from commencement to 1812 for all Bedfordshire parishes. After that the fiches at Dunstable being as far as I remember.....Caddington, Dunstable, Toddington, Houghton Regis, Studham  and Totternhoe. One would have thought it would have included Eaton Bray, Whipsnade and Kensworth but no......Luton library the nearest for me......not the CRO. Like wise L/Buzzard has a few....Hockliffe, Heath Reach, L/Buzzard Churches, Eggington, Billington and Eaton Bray......that I recall. Tazzie no doubt will know those I have missed. I do know Bedford library has the GRO index which the archives haven't......that according to the CRO. Anyway after all that waffle apologies to all for wrong info.
