Can Anyone Help To Identify This Address In Dunnottar Please?
« on: Thursday 19 October 06 07:58 BST (UK) »
I have recently found an ancestor whose address appears to be--

`Bendons of Little Fiddes, Dunnottar`. He was a farmer. Just wondering if this address rings any bells with anyone who may live locally.

Many thanks, Linda.

Hi Linda,

If you go to www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap, click on "I want to Get-a-map now !" then enter the post-code AB39 2XX, you'll see Bendings just above Castle of Fiddes which is another farm.

Hi Bervonian,
Can I just ask you if you know the area at all?  Would just like to know if the farm would be the one my ancestors lived in or if it has been replaced since then.

Many thanks. Linda.

I think you can take it that Bendings as shown in Get-a-map is the same farm/s your ancestors were connected with.  I say farm/s because if you look closely there are two farms.  This is confirmed by an 1868 map.  Go to www.old-maps.co.uk, choose Co-ordinate, and enter 382289,781440 (note the comma) and click Search.  You'll see that at that time they were called East Bendings and West Bendings.
