My father's middle name was his mother's maiden name ... but my "middle" name (my parents had aspirations for me, so I have 4 names!) is the same ... so I carry my paternal grandmother's maiden name (hasn't helped a lot in trying to sort them out!  ;)).

My mother's middle name was her mother's maiden name, and there are quite a lot of such cases in my tree.

Myfi, I've checked one of my reference books:

Aden BMDs 1840-1969 are indeed in the India Office collection at the British Library. The old shelf ref (before it was swallowed up by the Brit Lib) used to be N/13/1-21 -- and it may still be this!

Apparently, for administrative purposes, Aden figured under "Bombay".  There are additional Aden BMDs a) from 1839-43 published in the East India Register 1840-44 and b) from 1839-82 published as the Bombay Directory 1840-83. I believe these are at Society of Genealogists' Library in London. There may be a copy of the EIR at Guildhall as well.

However, don't overlook the overseas BMDs at the FRC in London and reproduced on the website www.1837online.com
