Please can some kind soul look up the details of the following person on the 1841 Census

Zenius Lowenthal b 1811 Living in Yorkshire

I think he's the only Lowenthal in the 1841 Census - if you find any more I'd love to know  :D

Thanks

What a fabulous name! He's in Huddersfield. It's sort of hard to read his name, though it's been transcribed in ancestry.com as Zenius.

Zenius Lowenthal   30 Wool merchant N F (Not of county, foreign)
Anne Marie Cope 30 Housekeeper No
Emma Tuth (?) 25 Servant  Yes

HO107/1275/10 page 25

I didn't find any others looking for Lowenthal. I'll try to be more imaginative in variations.

There's Nathan. He's listed in ancestry as LowInthal, though looking at the original, it could easily be LowEnthal. He's in Middlesex, in the parish of St. Andrew Undershaft , London Within the Walls

Nathan Low*nthal 25 Ind   F
David Cohen 40  Funder ? F

Many thanks to both of you - not sure if he's related at all to mine, but like to try and keep track of them all, just in case.   :) I spotted the transcription of Zenius and was intrigued - I have quite a few Lowenthals on file, but not a Zenius!!
Is there any chance it could say Louis?  I have a Louis who was in Huddersfield in 1851 and is very roughly the right age and is also a wool merchant.

Thanks also for spotting Nathan - I have a possible match for him in 1851.

It really doesn't look like Louis. It definitely looks like *nius, though I wouldn't have said that the first letter is "Z". It's quite possible of course that he changed his name. Perhaps he was Jewish. A number of my relatives changed their names to something more English sounding. Makes life very hard for those of us who come after however!!

Good luck joining the dots

Thanks for having another look Isobel.  Not sure these dots will ever join - but I'll keep trying  ;)
