Hi JJ,
Now I'll fill you in.
I've just been to South Wales hunting for the Calland family that my husband is related too. Infact on Sunday we were in Neath!
Theodore was one of those who disappeared from the Uk census. I had him in 1881 and then had to assume he had died. His father was John Forbes Calland, son of Charles Calland. Charles had a brother George and that's where our family come down from.
If you key in Calland in Google you will come up with the Calland collection held in the West Glamorgan archives which is what I went to study. Theodore's name was mentioned in the collection and I was pleased to see he hadn't died but had moved to Canada.
I must say you have access to some brilliant sites in Canada. You've helped me with another couple of Callands too and potentially helped me take them further. That's my aim. As of yesterday I have the family up to 1982. I'd love to find them today.
If anyone else hunting for Callands is reading this I would be pleased to help with all my muddled info. They were a very wealthy family with copper and tin mines as well as plenty of land and Calland Street which we visited.
I assume that you are in Canada JJ? We had a wonderful holiday this year on the East coast travelling between Toronto and Quebec and of course fitting in Niagara. We plan to visit Vancouver in the future and will now know that the Callands got there too!
Many thanks for all your investigations
Best wishes
