That is brilliant.  ;D ;D

Presumably you have got the emigration year of David from the 1900 census?

What is also interesting is that Diana may have come back to the UK as I think she maaried in Coventry in 1890.

Many thanks

Just noticed that Arthur is missing from the manifest in 1888 at Castle Garden?

I wonder where he was? The 1900 census says that he should have been 2 at the time, but he doesn't appear.

The AE infant is Amy (A-ME). It ties up with Amy's birth date. No idea where Arthur is.  :-\

Indexed as Woodin

David 25 head b Foleshill        Silk Weaver
Maria 24 wife b      "
Thomas 4 son b     "
Dinah 2 dau b       "

David and Maria Woodier are my Great Grandparents. My Grandfather was William Woodier Born 1882 along with 7 other siblings of which two other ones died in childbirth. My great grandmother Marie gave birth from 1867 until 1888. Amy was born in 1885 and Arthur 1888. David came to US in 1888, securing housing and Maria and younger kids sailed in Dec of 1889 and landed in NY in 1890 which makes for confused paperwork. I did not know that David went back over in 1904 but his older children then grown all still lived there to my knowledge. They had all lived in Coventry on Stony Stanton Road in the late 1880's. The young woman David travelled with I believe was his daughter and grandchild. My father, William's son was George Harold Woodier born 1918 from Clifton NJ. He was named after his other grandfather George Thomas.

On the Castle Garden web site

Arriving in the US - New York - 29 September 1888
Maria Woodier age 42 and children
Wiiliam age 5
Alice age 11
Annie age 3
Sophia age 14
A.E. infant age 10 months

http://www.castlegarden.org/
I have a baptism record from St Marks Church (gone) which states that on 2, December 1888 the family baptized William, Amy and Arthur. It was my understanding that David left after that and returned the following year to collect family. Or not.

Many thanks for the story of your family's emigration.

May I ask a few questions.
Do you why they chose to leave the UK and leave their older children behind?

Do you know what became of William's brothers and sister?

best wishes
Graham

William Woodier is my late grandfather who died in 1942 years before I was born. I knew his sister Amy who was four years younger than William. The reason the oldest children did not leave the UK is probably Thomas was about 20 and Dinah 18 years of age. I am sure that David did in fact return to Coventry (the family had lived on Stony Stanton Road) in order to see family and possible grandchildren. My great grandmother Maria had nine children of which seven survived. Maria was 41 when she had her youngest, Arthur. She outlived David as I read in a Census report from 1920 that she and Amy were living together if I recall correctly. Amy got married late and her surname became Terhune.

Thanks for that Bill.

I had it in my records that David died in 20 Dec 1908 in Norwalk. and that his wife Maria died 9th Mar 1913,

I would be most interested in the 1920 census to which you refer.

many thanks and best wishes,

Graham
