ALLEN Family - Buckland Newton/Stratton
« on: Thursday 26 October 06 12:17 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to find more information on John Allen (and his family). He was born in Buckland Newton abt 1806-1811 (in the 1841 census his age is recorded as 30, in the 1851 he's 54, 1861 64). His wife Susannah/Susanna/Susan was born in Piddletrenthide; in the 1841 census they are the same age (30), but in the other censuses she's 4 years younger than him. She's a widow in the 1881 census so John died between 1871 and 1881. Their first child George was born abt 1834 in Sydling St Nicholas, all their other children were born in Stratton. Any information on their marriage, on Susanna's maiden name, their parents, really anything would be much appreciated.

Many thanks for any help.  :)

Hi Frances,

Yes, this has to them :D. They had 12 children that I've traced so far, their first being George in 1834 and their last Sarah in 1859. The youngest were Josiah (down as Joseph on at least one of the censuses), Samuel, Peter and Emma born within 1-2 years of each other, then Sarah 6 years later.

Many thanks for your help  :).

I wonder if you have across any information on the Allen's of the Mappowder/Buckland Newton area of Dorset. My ancestor Titus Foot married Susannah Allen at Oborne in 1802. Her parents vwere William 1750 and Ann Scott then Richard 1719 and Hester Coombes and William 1697 and Elizabeth Malby. That is all I know about the Allen family and any information whatsever would be fantastic. Mark

At the time of Susannah's marriage she was living in Oborne so I assume that was where work was for her?i
