You can check speeds out how you like and you will get a different reading everytime....

I've just run two more tests and got 121kbs and 152kbs Download speeds??.....

How are these Tests run without accessing the Internet??..

Like you Michael72 I ran several tests - I've had as fast as 150 and as slow as 75 - no apparent rhyme or reason

cheers, g a r

The speed test that Biker gave the link to doesn't seem to be at all accurate. it gave me 857 kbs down and 104 up. I know that the downspeed is impossible because our exchange only supports 512 down. I'm sticking with the adslguide ones. They seem accurate.

All 30 of us on the same board have the same speeds - ours is an exchange prob.

PS and I can go make coffee and a 5 mile walk and just about get an Ancestry image at the mo  ::)

Not very accurate Michael  :(

With nothing else accessing the internet

adslguide has given me upspeeds of 490 kbs - 500 kbs  downspeeds and 240 upspeeds since I got Broadband.

Since the exchange problem I have had 45 - 75 kbs downspeeds. Upspeeds as normal. Yours gives me 225 down and 244 up

Immediately afterwards adsl gave me 50 and 240.

I know mine is very slow because of the fault.

I have 3 machines and they all give similar results.

I guess I'm in trouble then as my download speed is 0 and upload 380 Kbps   ;D ;D

but they all give different readings

here are just a few such links from Google
Line Speed tests

for those brave enough to try altering the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) settings to improve speeds a guide can be found at http://www.adslguide.org.uk/guide/mtu.asp

I think the best thing is to select a test that seems to work for you when things appear 'normal' and stick to that one.
