Hi David

Thanks again.  Yes that would be him in 1851.  So it is a great possibility that he is the one on Free bdm as death in Jun 1856 making him 26 when he died which is correct from his birth in 1831.

Thank you very much.

Hi David

Can I ask another favour please.

I have a marriage for a Hannah HARROWELL  in 1811 at Studham BEDS to a Henry WAPSHERE.  Can you see if you can find this couple in 1841 or 1851 so I can work out if this is perhaps the second marriage of my Hannah, wife of John. Hannah STOW was born at Studham!!
I have it as the marriage of their daughter, Hannah but she could be the one that died in 1807.

Thanks for anything you find in this tangled web that I have at the moment.

The only way to untangle this is to check the parish register (or the transcript which stops at 1812). You need to see what the detail is for the burials of Hannah and John in 1807, and whether Hannah in 1811 is described as widow. It's very risky to make assumptions, particularly with those burials where there's no age quoted.

I can find nothing in Beds for Wapshere . marriage, and there are no burials for a Hannah or a Henry in Studham or Whipsnade that even approach a possibility. Same with censuses - the only hit in Beds using Wap* or Whap* is Waples.

There are three people on GenesReunited with John born 1790 in their trees.

David

Hey David

Thanks for the try.  On the IGI I found a birth to a Henry WAPSHERE and Hannah at Little Gaddensden, Hertfordshire so perhaps they moved there?

As for looking at the parish registers, I live in Adelaide, South Australia where would I check the Parish registers from here.

Best regards Tigerlilly

May have found them in London. On the IGI there are also a number of children christened in Marylebone with parents Henry Wapshere and Hannah

In 1841
HO107/684/15 folio 12A
Little Albury St North, St Pancras, Marylebone
Henry Wapshare 50 Plasterer Not born in county
Hannah Wapshare 50 Not bic
Lucy Wapshare 18 Bic
Hannah Wapshare 15
Indexed as Wapshaw

I cannot see them in 1851 unfortunately, as that would have given birthplaces.

If it is the right family then it seems to have been the daughter who married in 1811, not the mother.

But you still need to check with the parish register.

Try posting a new request asking for a parish register lookup in Whipsnade for the three entries I suggested. I'm sure someone will have access to the transcript.

You live in South Australia, I live in the South of France, but fortunately there's the LDS which has microfilms of vast numbers of parish registers, including virtually all of Beds. Check out their homepage on www.familysearch.org to find the Family History Centre nearest to you - I can't see one in Adelaide but there are a number in South Australia.

Alternatively you could buy the transcripts, which are on fiche or hard copy, from BLARS - which is what I do, using fiche and a 20x magnifying glass!

David

Hello David,

Thanks, that is them in London.  Looks like it was the daughter then.  Thanks a lot.  I will certainly see if I can buy the fiche for the parish Whipsnade.

MARRIAGE AT STUDHAM

10/11/1811 Hen Wapshere of L Gadd, Herts & Hannah Harrowell of Studham (lic)

Will try and check P/R's for the marriage of Jn & Mgt.

Geo Harrowell son of Thomas & Sarah married one of mine so have some bits but not all confirmed. I concluded that John  married twice but will check out the marriage to Mgt Hales.

Hello Susan

I was going over some posts and I do not think that I have replied to you.
I want to thank you for the info on the marriage of Hannah Harrowell.
I would be interested in what you have on the Harrowell name.

Regards Tigerlilly.
