Elizabeth GUNTRIP maiden name? Parish lookup?
« on: Tuesday 07 November 06 01:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm back again with this **** Guntrip/Guntrup/Guntrupt family!

Just when I thought I was getting somewhere, I got a birth certificate but frustratingly I can't read the mother's surname!!

Is anyone able do a lookup for me please? If possible I would like to discover the mother's maiden name.

I have:
son: James born 18 July 1838
father: William Guntrip, labourer
mother: Elizabeth Slardley / Standley / Sla**ley?
birth registered by the mother on the 6th August 1838.

If anyone happens to see anything else about William Guntrip and Elizabeth S****y, like their marriage for example, I would really appreciate the information.

I have previously been given many marriages of many Guntrips (thanks Tazzie) from 1837 to 1854, but a marriage between William and Elizabeth is not in the list. Looking at dates of birth of their children I think this marriage must have taken place prior to 1837?

To assist (maybe?) I have the following:
1841 census: the family is living in the borough of Buckingham, parish: precinct of Prebend End, place: Church End.
1851 census: the family is living in the parish of Radclive cum Chackmore, Bath Lane. This census indicates all of the family was born in Buckingham. William aged 42, born 1809. Elizabeth aged 45, born 1806. The oldest child at home is Elizabeth aged 19, born 1832.

I have a load of information about all the Guntrip families in this area (thanks to Karenlee for the census). It is particularly William and Elizabeth I am looking for more information about.

Thank you to all.

   Good morning  Ruskie...

  How are you?

I am going in on Thursday to check  Drayton Parslow for a couple so could have a check through then for you.
I cannot remember looking pre 1837 so not sure what the writing or condition will be like so fingers crossed.

Aw, you're such a sweetie Tazzie. Thanks so much.

It's Elizabeth's maiden name I hope to find. And the marriage of William and Elizabeth if at all possible.

Remember how confusing those darn Guntrips are ... all the same names ... same jobs ... all living together ...

You know there are even two James born around the same time. (The wrong one has father Thomas and mother Susannah).

So nice of you to help.

William Guntrip married in Buckingham 20th June 1830 to Elizabeth Standley.

I checked the baptisms in Buckingham 1805 - 1812 with no luck I'm afraid.

Hi again

I live in Aylesbury and go to the records office at least once a week. Tuesday and sometimes Friday like this week.

Oh.   I am in Milton Keynes thought there was a chance of bumping into you along the way. Only been to the Aylesbury records office once.

Jo,

You are brilliant, thanks ever so much for that! Did you happen to notice if they married in St John the Evangelist in Radclive? (If not, it doesn't matter).

And thanks for looking for the baptisms too Jo.

Taz, if your kind offer is still open and you have some time to look for William or Elizabeth's births that would be much appreciated. I guess they could be anywhere though ....

With a marriage in 1830 and child Elizabeth born in 1832, I bet they managed to produce at least one child before Elizabeth - no doubt one of those 6 month pregnancies that were so popular at the time.

Taz, remember how puzzling I found the name change from Guntrip to Gunthorpe? During the free Ancestry access a couple of days ago, I had a look for the name Guntrip in one of Ancestry's 'origins of surnames' books. They said that Guntrip/Gunthorpe has the same origin and meaning. Still, one of them one day must have thought, "um, same meaning, sounds a bit similar ... think I'll call myself Gunthorpe from now on".

Thanks again Jo, Tazzie is right, I am very pleased!
