Duthill - SUTHERLAND

Hello all,

I hope someone can help or has a link with the following:-

James Sutherland born Duthill about 1833.  I have no christening details for him.  His parents were David Sutherland and Isabella Anderson, they may have been married in Duthill.  I do not know where they were born.

Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

These are the children showing for a David Sutherland and Isabella Anderson on IGI including a James in 1833:

1. JAMES SUTHERLAND Birth: 07 MAR 1833/ Christening: 21 MAR 1833 Duthil With Rothiemurchus, Inverness, Scotland
3. ANDREW SUTHERLAND Birth: 17 NOV 1825/ Christening: 08 DEC 1825 Alvie, Inverness, Scotland
4. DONALD SUTHERLAND Birth: 09 JAN 1830/ Christening: 13 JAN 1830 Boharm, Moray, Scotland

The only marriage showing for a couple with these names on IGI is too late: 6 JAN 1850 Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen,

I can't easily see the family in the 1841 Census. If you try finding the family in the 1851 Census (which is more accurate for ages and should give specific birth places for the parents) this would help in your searches.

Only two possibilities coming up on SP for Isabella Anderson's death (it's easier to search for married women as you can search by both married and maiden surnames):

1858   SUTHERLAND ISABELLA/ GRANT (mother's surname)/    ANDERSON (other surname)   age 63 in KINGUSSIE AND INSH/INVERNESS GROS Ref: 102/00 0004   

1875   SUTHERLAND ISABELLA/ ANDERSON   age 66   in NEWBURGH/FIFE GROS Ref: 450/00 0027   

The only point to bear in mind when searching on SP for married name and maiden name, is that you cannot tell from the search results alone which name is which. For example, the 1858 death above, Isabella's maiden name could have been Sutherland and she could have married an Anderson. Irrititating I know, but at least this search option lets you narrow the field a lot!

Hello Monica,

Thank you so much for that.  I think it's most likely to be the first option as the second one would have only been 16 when she had Andrew, still is possible though.
