FITZWILLIAMS of Clixby & Mablethorpe
« on: Saturday 11 November 06 11:58 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with the Fitzwilliams of Clixby and Mablethorpe? I believe that Charles Fitzwilliam married Frances Chaplin on 23 March 1730; their son, also Charles was born at Clixby Manor on 20 July 1733. He married an unknown and had a son, Charles Samuel Fitzwilliam (born 1777? and died 10 June 1802). This Charles married Mary Benton who died in childbed 26 July 1800. This last couple produced a daughter, Frances Mary Fitzwilliam (b. 1799, d. 1870). I would be very grateful for any information relating to this family who appear to have lived at Clixby Manor at least from 1730. Clixby Manor House was demolished in the 1970s or '80s. The oldest Fitzwilliam grave I have identified in Clixby churchyard is that of Mary, wife of Charles Samuel Fitzwilliam.

Many thanks! I do find these f/trees rather difficult to read - but this is very useful. It looks as though the Charles I have, who married Frances Chaplin in 1730, was probably the second son of John Fitzwilliam of Clixby (d. 1718) and his wife Anne. The dates seem to match. Thanks again and best wishes, Stehad

Hello, I think that you've helped me more than I can help you!
Frances Mary Fitzwilliam married Richard Hannam of Middlesex on 15/2/1820.  After a while they settled in East Retford, where Richard practiced as a solicitor and they produced at least 9 children that I know of. Let me know if you want any more info about them.

Hello - I'm very interested to hear that you farm at Clixby Manor Farm. I do have a Victorian photo of the Manor House + some photos and a painting done in about 1959, shortly before the original house was demolished. I also have portraits of Samuel Fitzwilliam (d. 1790), his son, Charles Samuel (d. 1802) and Charles's daughter, Frances Mary (d. 1871). The Clixby estate was sold by Frances and her husband, Richard Hannam in about 1853. Samuel was my Great (x5) Grandfather. The Fitzwilliams lived at Clixby from about 1630 and they are all buried in Clixby, though only Frances's gravestone and that of Charles's wife, Mary, are still visible. Unfortunately, I can't seem to attach any photos to this message - but I'd be happy to email them to you direct. Have you discovered anything on the farm which might correspond with the period that the Fitzwilliams were in residence? Best wishes, Stephen
