Batherwicks of Tyas/Tyers Hall
« on: Saturday 11 November 06 19:42 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know the whereabouts of this Hall.Dont know if the the spelling is correct but the older Aunts remember it being the home of one of the Blatherwicks and being somewhere in Yorkshire or North Derbyshire.
Any information appreciated

Audrey,

I don't think it was Farnley Tyas.

In the 1881 Census there is a Blatherwick family, head Maria, married (?) living in some style with servants at Tyers Hill Hall, near Darfield, Barnsley. They are still there (but now it's a House, and Maria's still married but with no husband) in 1891.

[Edited] In 1861 and 71 they are living in Ecclesall, Sheffield. Husband John is a sugar broker. He is still there in 1881 and 1901, but not visible in 1891. Maybe he was off in the Windies breaking sugar or whatever sugar brokers did  :)
