« on: Saturday 11 November 06 20:53 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone researching this family please?

William Ellwood married Ann Rigg in Crosby Ravensworth on 13th November 1820.
Ann’s parents were Jonathan Rigg and Christian Woof.  (I think)

In 1841

Living in Shap, Westmorland.

William Ellwood 45 Farmer born 1796
Ann Ellwood 40
Jonathan Ellwood 15 christ’ed in Morland, 18th Apr 1824
John Ellwood 14 christ’ed 2nd Aug 1826 Morland
Thomas Ellwood 12 christ’ed 11th Oct 1829 Morland
William Ellwood 10 christ’ed 17th Apr 1831 Morland
Ann Ellwood 8 christ’ed 17th Feb 1833 Morland
Mary Ellwood 6 christ’ed 5th Apr 1835 Crosby Ravensworth
James Ellwood 4 christ’ed 12th Feb 1837
Joshua Ellwood 1 month, christ’ed 23rd May 1841, Joshua died in 1841

On LDS there is also a daughter Elizabeth Ellwood born to William & Ann, and christened in Crosby Ravensworth on 21st July 1822. She is working as a servant in St Lawrence Appleby with a young son James Ellwood 7 mths christened 22nd Nov 1840 in Crosby Ravensworth.

If would be heaven if someone could wave a magic wand and sort out all these Ellwoods around Crosby Ravensworth ;)

Sorry Trees, I should have said that I already have them, but thanks very much for looking, it's nice to know that someone (maybe) thinks I'm on the right track.

I haven't checked any of them, so it's only guesswork.......what do you think?

That's the problem, when there's a few with the same name.

I haven't included the William/Fanny one, only William & Elizabeth and Joshua and Mary

Hi

Have you tried this website I have always found it a big help when it comes to finding out who was who in (Salkeld) Crosby Ravensworth & Maulds Meaburn a transcript of the Parish Register with all the info the IGI will not give up like which farms or area of the villages they lived on/at

The Parish Registers used to be seperate but are now consolidated into one list still worth a look though with plenty of CR & MM Ellwood/Elwood featured

http://www.btinternet.com/~grigg/

Also Crosby Ravensworth has its own Parish Archive so if you ever visit the village (highly recommended) make enquiries somebody might let you in to look at there various resources

Thanks for that Bill, I have actually looked at the site....and it's really good, especially if you have one of the single names listed, like Curwen or Grigg.

There's that many Ellwoods on...it's difficult to know who's who.

I did find it good for my Fothergills of Mallerstang and Gibsons of Staveley on the 1829 list, although my Fothergills moved to Hawkshead Hall, which is Lancs, but the Gibsons stayed at New Hall, Staveley right through the 1800's.

Thanks again
Fay
