Hi Jude,

I thought I had found a reference to Marton but I can't find it at the moment.

I am researching my Jones family but like to follow most leads and Margaret Ellen CARDWELL b.1851 Manchester married my g, grandfathers brother in 1873 at Gorton, Manchester.

On the marriage certificate Margaret's father is William CARDWELL occupation Bricklayer.

William's wife was an elizabeth b.1830, William died before 1881.

This is as much as I can tell you at the moment.

It is a bit tenuous and I don't have William and Elizabeth's marriage!

I had a quick look, no Cardwell marriage really stands out on the IGI, Free BMD or Lancashire BMD?

Could this be Williams Marriage to Elizabeth (On Ancestry Compleat B.M.D. =G.R.O) going by the birth of Elizabeth.

Hi Jude

I wonder if there might be a connection with your Robert Cardwell.  Edward Bickerstaffe b abt 1804 married twice, first to a Mary Cardwell born abt1802 married 17/1/1831 she died 6/10/1840 he then married again.  Always a chance this might be a sister to Robert?  Edward was my gt gt grandmothers brother.  He then married a Margaret Bamber in 1855.

Hi Wonoona

I am still looking and searching for Cardwells', it is just a tad difficult at the moment to concentrate on a particular line.

The Bickerstaffe's were certainly in and around the area of Marton I am looking at, but I will need to check on dates.

When things straighten out here and I get a bit more time, I will have a look and see.

I am back on the trail again - or is that trial?  ???

Can't see a Mary Cardwell connection at around that time to Robert b 1810.  Perhaps, if I could only find definite details of his parents I may stand a chance.

Still have a sneaking suspicion that there is a link between the families - they just keep bumping into each other throughout the C19th.
