Any Census Help Pls - CANNON
« on: Wednesday 15 November 06 12:14 GMT (UK) »
Any help with census for the following if possible: CANNON
Thomas b: 1781
William B: 1782
John b: 1788
Thomas b: 1794
Michael b: 1795 @ Charles b: 1799, all shown as born Benington. Parents Thomas Cannon and Elizabeth. There were 6 female siblings, 2 of whom I have the marriage details for, the others I would think would have married by the 1841 census. I have Michael Cannon on the 1881 census, still in Benington. Many thanks  :) Lyn

Here we go with 1861

RG9 Piece 811 Folio 169 page 8
Wood End, Ardeley
John Cannon Head 73 Blacksmith   Bennington
Esther Cannon Wife 69                  Hertford
Phillip Cannon Son 18 Shoe maker Ardeley
Jane Stillwell Granddaur 4                Surrey, Kingston
Robert Prime <No relationship lsted> Widr 61 Blacksmith  Stevenage

RG9 Piece 822 Folio 30 page 19
Church End, Bennington

Michael Cannon Head Widr 65 Blacksmith  Bennington

RG9 Piece 822 Folio 26 Page 12
Bennington Rd
Mary Cannon Head W 54 Retired Blacksmit's W
Thomas "       Son        26 Bootmaker
William   "      Son        21      "
Ann        "      Daur      16
Elizabeth "    Daur       14
Charles    "     Son        13
Caleb      "      Son       11
All from Bennington

There's also, in Bennington, Henry, presumably Thomas and Mary's son also on Bennington Rd
RG9 Piece 822 Folio 26 page 12
Henry Cannon Head Mar 29 Blacksmith  Bennington
Ann Cannon    Wife         29                    Cambridgeshire, Wood Ditton
John Cannon   Son        6 mos                       "                        "

In 1871 Michael is listed. He's transcribed as 95, though I think that it certainly could be read as 75

Bennington Green
Michael Cannon Head Widr 75 Church clerk and blacksmith Bennington
+ George and Susan Spicer family listed as lodgers. Susan may well be Michael's daughter as I found a marriage  in Hertford in 1857 for Susan Cannon. A possible husband listed was George Spicer.

I couldn't find John in 1871.
Hope this all helps

Isobel
