Marriage Frustration!! :)
« on: Friday 17 November 06 16:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I'm going round and round in circles on a marriage I can't find!!........I could be staring it in the face or it's one of those unwilling to be found!!.....

Apologise for the brief details I have.........but I can't find this lady's parents marriage...

Rosa Marjorie Goodwin born 12/11/1920 to William Goodwin and Florence nee Williams. (Sub dist. Mold Reg Dist. Holywell)

William and Florence know to have lived in Mold and district all their lives.  Other children born 1916-1922.

Any help gratefully recieved!! :)

Sarah

I had a look on www.familyrelatives.org - where you can use the maiden name AND ask to match the complementary entries.

2 Goodwins marrying Williams in the area - 1912 - 1918, but neither a Florence !

Convinced they didnt marry elsewhere ?

nothing from 1914-1916 in the full index so Oonagh may be right. Ruthin to Mold is about 19 miles.

Hi All

Many thanks for all your replies...sorry it's taken so long!!...am just tidying up a few posts!!!.....well I've taken the bull by the horns and just ordered the marriage cert......have since found out that "margaret F's" family almost certainly came from the Ruthin area so fingers crossed and eyes on the doormat!!!

Thanks again

If you look on freebmd Dec 1891, Birth, Chester 8a 420 - you will find Margaret Florence Williams...could be the other piece of the jigsaw??

Hi All

Well the certificate arrived this morning...and I'm almost convinced it's them.... ???

19th September 1912 at St Meugan's, Llanrhydd.

William Goodwin 27 Bachelor. Carter. 8, Rhos St. Father - Edward Goodwin, Carter
Margaret Florence Williams 21 Spinster. 1, Wernfechan. Father - William Williams, Slater and Plasterer.

Witnesses - George Goodwin, Florence Jones.

In absence of another possible match for the marriage it's easy to come to the conclusion it is them!!.......Is there any other way I can prove/dis-prove this match????

Any help/suggestions most gratefully recieved!!

Sarah :)

Hi Sarah

It looks good to me. There do not appear to be any alternatives.

Presumably your concerns are:
1) Florence's first name not on the birth certificate
2) the family being from the Mold area.

As far as 1) is concerned have you looked for a death certificate for Florence in case she simply dropped the first name. Have you looked for other children's birth certificates to see what was on them? Is it worth trying to find them on the electoral roll to see where they were and the names.
as far as 2)  the electoral roll would again be a possibility. You will presumably have an address on the birth certificate.

as to the whole - what was William's occupation on the birth certificate?

I notice that in error I quoted the distance between Mold and Ruthin as 19 miles. A typing error - I meant about 10. Rhos Street in Ruthin is actually on the road to Mold. Wern Fechan is very close. St Meugan's Church is about 1/2 mile away.

Hi Peter

Many thanks for your reply....as you suggested I think a birth cert of one of Rosa's siblings is the way to go!! I'll also put a request up for an electoral roll of the time to see if the names all fit together.  On Rosa's birth cert the address is 14, Ponterwyl, Mold....if I'm right in thinking this is now the site of Tesco, as was the railway station. Her father's occupation is stated as "railway checker"..whatever that was!

Many thanks again

Sarah :)
