Hi Arranroots...thanks for your reply....i did check that marriage out but the age of Eleanor at the time of the wedding was 31 which would make her birth date around 1830/31..as she doesn't appear on any census until the 1861 one when she was 8(apparently..RG9/637 folio 110 page 21)i think it looks like the Jane Eleanor Hansler may be the way to go on this problem...many thanks for your help :D

Hi,

If you look up the births of Matilda and Sarah HENSLER on the IOWFHS site here,

http://www.isle-of-wight-fhs.co.uk/index.htm

it shows the mother's maiden name as MEW, the IGI has this marriage,

Jane MEW
Spouse: Thomas HENSLER
13 Apr 1832  Saint Thomas, Portsmouth

This looks like it could be Jane's death,

Jane HENSLER  Jun Q  1855  Portsea Island  v.2b  p.255

Hope that helps, but I wish I could find Eleanor in 1871,

Daisy

:o Wow....how did they do that......spend half their lives being called one name and the other half another >:(. No wonder trying to clear up this mystery is getting no where fast........ I checked 1871 this morning....sister...lodger...visitor...grandaughter...neice....Eleanor/jane....Jane/eleanor Hansler/Hunsler/Hansley born 1851/52/53 ...and so on and so on...... I even started imagining bits of info that wasnt even there! Could'nt find a death for Jane/Eleanor.  Brilliant work Daisy in finding the Hensler info, it may help turn her up!!!! I'm still working on her being a servant of some sort in the Holborn area at the moment, being mistranscribed, having married Joseph Higginson in 1872 , but am having trouble locating even him with his wife in the 81. Maybe they went out of the country?

:) Yes , i saw that there was plainly a dot above the letter after the 'H', but they were still transcribed Hensler. And now the icing on the cake..........Daisy found in the IOW births that the children were born in the name of Hensler. The marriage was reg as a Hensler marriage........and now i have found the children in the 1861 census all registered as Hensler children...

       Fanny Hensler  1845  Dec  Portsea

       Frederick Hensler  1850  Sep  Portsea

James was stated as born IOW so should be with Sarah and Matilda.

So it looks like they were all Henslers!!!!!!
