Rae's of Polmont
« on: Wednesday 22 November 06 04:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am looking for the parents of Peter Rae b. c. 1805 in Polmont.  Peter Rae married Helen Jack. There seem to be so many different branches of Rae from there that I am lost. Father may be John Rae and mother an unknown Beveridge. Any help would be appreciated.

James, 14
Janet, 12

I believe it was probably Helen's parents who were John and mother's surname Beveridge. From IGI, an actual extract from the OPRs, Helen's details:

HELEN JACK     Birth: 14 OCT 1808/ Christening:  30 OCT 1808  Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland
Parents: Father: JOHN JACK  Mother: JANET BEVERIDGE

If it's any help, there are three male Rae baptisms in the 1800-1805 period in Polmont. All 1803 though.

27 March 1803, Alexander, s/o Andrew Rae and Agnes Aitken
11 August 1803 Thomas Livingstone, s/o James Rae and Elizabeth Anderson
11 December 1803, James, s/o Livingston Rae and Alison Johnstone

The James and Elizabeth look possible parents if naming conventions were followed.

James Rae  and Elizabeth Anderson had 4 children baptised in Polmont:

7 June 1795 Margaret
23 April 1797 John
28 Feb 1799 James
11 August 1803 Thomas Livingston

Just looking at the James and Elizabeth combination! You will probably need to look for Peter's death cert on Scotlands People to confirm his parents' names.
Two possible marriages for a James Rae and Elizabeth. I've kept Glasgow in the frame simply because of the Census and children's births:

JAMES RAE  Marriages: Spouse:    ELISABETH MACKENZIE
Marriage:  02 NOV 1802  Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

....and in Stirling, a submitted entry which fits with the birth entry Gadget found for a Thomas in 1803:

JAMES RAE  Marriages: Spouse: ELIZABETH ANDERSON
Marriage:  13 OCT 1789  Muiravonside, Stirling, Scotland

I think the James/Elizabeth Anderson one seems to fit the pattern best.

I can't find any other bpts for children though either before 1795 or after 1803.

If so, James might have been Livingston's brother  :-\
