Hi,

Just found a Common married into my line, but no link to any of yours so far

Francis John Common  b 1874  Edinburgh ( to be confirmed)  d 1931 Edinburgh
parents John Shafto Common, master printer & Annie Butler Common
Married Christina Stewart 1898 Edinburgh
Daughters Margaret Austin Common b 1899
Annie Butler Common b 1901
Christina Stewart Common b 1904

Francis was a commercial traveller & his initial gets transcribed wrongly in both the IGI & Scotlands people for 1901.

Cheers

Hello! I’ve recently found a Richard Common born sometime near 1790 who had an Agnes Common aged 89 living with him at Lantonhill at the time of the 1841 Scotland Census. He married a Jannet/Jennet Laing and their children (John, Richard, Agnes, Janet, Hellen/Ellen, Thomas) were born in Roxburgh. I wonder if this connects to what you have found? Could he be the son of the Andrew & Agnes you found? I am having a hard time figuring out his parents and exact birth year.

Hello kiwi 32

Ive just been reading your posts on the Common family. My direct ancestor is Thomas Common son of Richard Common abt 1749 - 1827. I have an OPR for the birth of Richard Common showing his father as Richard Common and his mother as Isabel Ballington. This Richard Common was baptised in Jedburgh on 16th April 1749. Although I thought also that Thomas Common was Richard Common's father I haven't found evidence to support that yet. Thomas Common had John Common 1827 - 1889 who married Margaret Smith 1829 - 1864 and amongst their children was my great grandfather William Bell Common. We have the same Great Great Grandfather and Grand mother in Thomas Common and Isabella H Armstrong. :)
Common family Dumfriesshire and Scottish Borders; Drydens of Lochmaben and surrounds; Smiths of Halfmorton, Dumfriesshire. Also Parks of Ayrshire; Lawrie (Lowrie; Laurie).
