MANNs of WHAULAND
« on: Monday 15 November 04 19:23 GMT (UK) »
Any help would be appreciated, My wife's GGGF is recorded as born in Whauland in the County of Angus. Cannot seem to locate this place which I think is around Carmylie or Kinell.

Many thanks.

Hello,

I live about 25 miles from Carmyllie and don't know of Whauland. I have looked in the postcode directory and can't see anything listed for that name. Carmyllie is a small village, so if it's in that area it probably is the name of a farm, but there's non listed with that name now.

Where's your source from ? As the most likeliest answer is that the name has been misread/interpreted.

Jean :)

Jean,
Many thanks for your help.
I have the marriage certificate of John Mann and Christina Spalding dated 17 May 1875. They married at Whauland in the Parish of Kinnell by the minister of Farnell Church the Rev JA Cameron. John's Father was a farmer.
The spelling Whauland is consistent on the documents I have.

Kind regards,

John

Hello John,

Kinnell & Farnell are quite a way from Carmyllie, they are nearer to Brechin. I'll get the postcode book out and take another look.

Bye

Hello again,

In postal address book, at Farnell, there's a Whanland Farm Cottage DD9 6UF, so you will be able to find it on a map site - no Whauland.
