Can anyone confirm the truth of the Tuam connection in this story?

David Wallace, whose father was a solicitor in Tuam, emigrated in 1881 to Independence, Missouri.  He married Margaret Gates and they had a daughter Elizabeth (Bessie) Virginia born 1885. Bessie married President Harry Truman.

Hello Stephen,

The White House website has an article about Elizabeth Virginia Wallace Truman
but it doesn't mention Tuam... www.whitehouse.gov/history/firstladies/et33.html

Hi Steve,

There are several posts on Genforum re Bess Wallace Truman including one from Don Wallace which says ...

"the Wallace ancestors of Bess Wallace Truman are identified in NSDAR document 36135.

This document is based on research done in the late 30s and presented to Mrs. Truman at the White House on November 12, 1946."

Thanks again, Christopher

It is clear from the information contained in the aforesaid website that the original story about David Wallace and Tuam is incorrect.

Steve
