Help with John Money please - Guernsey or Norwich?
« on: Sunday 03 December 06 18:17 GMT (UK) »
I have a John Money b 1814c shown as being born in Guernsey on the 1851 census for Norwich St Stephens (HO107 1815 254 44). He is with his wife Harriett b 1817c and children Thomas (18), William (14), James H (11) and Maria (2).

I can't find John and Harriett in 1841 but possibly Thomas (9) and James (2)are shown with William and Maria Emms HO107 791 3 also in Norwich St Stephens.

I'm wondering if Guernsey has been mis-transcribed as I can't find any likely looking Money family in Guernsey. Are there any place names in Norwich that look similar to Guernsey???

IGI gives John's marriage to Harriett Leuden (this could be Landor) as Norwich All Saints 24/1/1832 and John died in 1858.

Any help finding John and Harriett in 1841 and any other information would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Thanks Teddy.

I was wondering if you looked at Guernsay with screwed up eyes in the dark while still half asleep if it could possibly look like a Norfolk place name!!!

Take care
Teresa

I've come to Guernsey trace John Money b.1815. This is listed as his birthplace on every document I've found, including his Merchant Seaman's documents. However, there is no trace of him or the family in Guernsey, and I've been told that Money isn't a Guernsey name. So, the trail has gone cold!!!!

Not much help with your original query but John/Harriet had another Son that died young;

Baptism;
06 Jul 1843 St Stephen, Norwich
LEONARD MURRAY Money
Father a Baker
Buried as Leonard Money 5 Mar 1845, infant
(FreeREG)

FreeREG has Harriett LENDER as on 1832 Marriage.

Baptism;
St Stephen, Norwich
Harriet LANDER 8 Jan 1815 (birth 26 Dec 1814)
Parents PAUL and ANNA MARIA
Fathers occp Weaver, abode St Stephens
(2 records second has her as Maria Wilson)

Paul LANDER and Ann Maria WILSON married 30 March 1788 Heigham
Groom signed with an X; Bride signed her name; Married by Banns

Paul was buried    28 Feb 1841 St Stephen age 80

Paul/Anna also had a Daug 1792 named Maria
Maria married Thomas EMMS 1820

So boys with their maternal Auntie in 1841;
William Emms   60
Maria Emms   50
Thomas Money   9
James Money   2
Louisa King   10

I know this query is old but may help someone else if original poster teresasmith is not around.

Trish :)

Leonard is a name that has passed down my branch of the Money family. My g.grandfather (John Money's grandson) was Leonard Washington money, and my father was George Leonard.
