Hi Annie,

Thanks for that India Office Link.

I actually came across it about three weeks ago and have spent more than a few hours wading though my St Helena families and confirming previous dates and finding new ones!

Thanks again.

 :)  Hi Alastair

Wonder how you tapped into a list of folk born on St Helena?  Wish I could help you, but I'm searching myself for family history.   :-*

Rev Thomas Aitken and family were on St Helena, from about 1893? until maybe 1904?, as Baptist prison chaplain.

Two of their five children, were, I think, born on St Helena...........Douglas Aitken and Dorothy Aitken, and Winifred Grace Aitken, though not sure?   ???

Cheers

Hi Danchaslyn,

Here is info that you asked me to post here.  Hopefully someone will connect with us:)

My Thomas died in Hillcrest,  Kwazulu-Natal.  Apparently he was a bit of a drinker.  He was listed as Commercial Bookeeper.  I know from previous research that there was a Thomas Aitken in the 1902 voter's list in Cape Town, living at 64 Chapel Street, Zonnebloem, Cape.  His property was valued at 500 pounds.  In 1929 Cape Town Telephone Directory he is shown to be living at 23 Camp Street, Gardens, C/Town.
Now whether this is my Thomas or yours, is anybodie's guess.  If you have information that ties up with your Thomas living in Cape Town between 1902 and 1929, then this could be your guy.
My Thomas married Harriet (surname unknown) and had Phillip Alexander Sutherland in 1893, Sybil Jennie in 1898, Winifred, Charles, David and Annie.  I am in touch with the descendant of Sybil Jennie, who lives in Cape Town and is also interested in any info on the Aitkens.

Any info you can give me will be appreciated and vice versa i imagine.

Regards
Jackie

Hi Bowes  Jackie

Thank you so much for your reply and for your info re Winifred Grace being born 1902 St Helena, which confirms that I thought she was born on the Island.  I'm sure also that her younger sister, Dorothy (although she may be Edith Dorothy?) Aitken, was born there as well, I know she was born 19 November, think the year could be 1904.   ???

Not sure if Douglas Aitken, their elder brother was born on St Helena, or in Scotland, don't have a birthdate for him.  ???

I'll go back into South African posting section for the rest of the South African Aitkens.

Cheers

Danchaslyn

Hi Alastair!
We meet again.... this time I have a question about someone in your family tree:  Charlotte Burnham c 12 July 1789.   The only information I have is that she may have married Richard Wells, a widower, on 16 Feb 1809 on St Helena.
I have just completed a tree on the Burnham family as Mary Burnham c 1783 was the third wife of my 8x great grandfather Thomas Alesworth.  He was a small merchant and brewer on St Helena (he owned a quarter share in the Union Brewery along with Henry Porteous and left his share to the management of his wife Mary when he died..... last time I was in touch I asked a question about Rachel Alesworth).
I live in Australia so if you would like me to post a copy of the Burnham tree I am quite happy to do so.  Any further info you might have on Charlotte or other members of the family would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Bev Rock
