SPICE and STANDEN - HASTINGS - Look up request

I am looking for information on William Richard Spice. Born Hawkhurst, Kent 11 December 1851. Age 20 in lodgings Hastings. Married 1875 Sarah Elizabeth Standen. They had nine children: George W., Alice, Annie, Richard, Ellen (aka Nellie), William R., Frank, Mark, and Sarah. Alice married Albert Ball (in Hastings) in 1913.

Information on deaths of William and Sarah and/or lives of other children of great interest.

Can you be a wee bit more precise about the information you are looking for e.g. specific census info in 1881/1891 or 1901 or dates of birth.  That way no-one duplicates what you already know.

Sorry, it was a "mouthful" and not definitive.

I have taken advantage of the 1881, 1891, 1901 censuses concerning William Richard Spice, and therefore have a list of the children resulting from his marriage.

Therefore I would like to find out which Standen family he married into in 1875 when he married Sarah Elizabeth Standen, so that i can tracker her side.

Given that 1901 is the most recent census available it is not going to provide any deaths - unless either of them died prior to that date, so I do not know where i would look to find that out.

Hi Peckham

Have you applied for the marriage certificate of William and Sarah in 1875 - it would list both of their fathers from which you could follow them back through the 1871, 1861 1851 census etc.

What data do you have on the Standen line?

Yes, I have sent off for a copy of the marriage certificate but await its arrival.

Re William (Richard) Spice
I have the connection back through his father (also) William - born Hawkhurst, Kent who married an Ann Odiam in Hawkhurst circa 1832. I now have to try to push back further re ancestors of theirs . . . although i have found that the name Odiam does not occur with any frequency in Kent or Sussex censuses

Re Sarah Elizabeth Standen
I have nothing on her or her family other than the date of her marriage to William Richard Spice in 1875 in Hastings. I am hoping that she belonged to a "local" family as there are some Standens recorded in some of the Hastings censuses.
