Leslie/Lassely, Smyth, Galligan, Lynch, Reilly and Brady
« on: Tuesday 12 December 06 12:01 GMT (UK) »
I wonder if any of these names mean something to anyone?

Patrick Leslie/Lassley (born abt. 1825).  Parents, Edward Leslie/Lassely and Catherine Brady.  Patrick married Margaret Galligan whose parents were James Galligan and Bridget Lynch.

James Leslie/Lassley, (born abt. 1830) brother of Patrick, came from Terraland Co. Cavan.  The writing is poor but quite clear, though obviously the Registrar had difficulty with James’s accent and his own spelling.  The nearest I can get is the Barony of Tullaghlagh, Templeport, but I would love to know the correct name.

Edward Leslie/Lassley, (born abt. 1815) half brother of Patrick and James.  Parents, Edward Leslie/Lassely and Mary Docherty.

Patrick Smith/Smyth. (born abt. 1825)  Parents, Sylvester Smith/Smyth and Bridget Reilly
Patrick married Ann Smith whose parents were Thomas Smith and Ann Donnachie.

I've noticed that some of these surnames are quite common in Cavan.

Hello Jim,
One of the names I am looking for is Reilly,my great grandmother's name was Ann Reilly, she was married to Thomas Lawless,it says on the 1861 census for stourbridge in Worcester that she was born in Jons Meath Co Meath, but don't know if thats right.
They were both born in the early 1820s
Is this any help?

Hi Jim
I have a Catherine Brady in my tree. She is sister to Rose who is my GGG Grandmother. Other siblings I have are Mary. When Rose got married in 1852  , in the parish of Annagh ,Catherine was a witness.
I have found Brady to be a common name too , not that common that I have found any connections though!
Regards
Mrst

Apart from knowing that Catherine Brady was the second wife of Edward Leslie, who was a widower at the time of their marriage, and the mother of Patrick and James Leslie who were born about 1825 and 1830 respectively, there is virtually nothing else I know about her.

Hi,

I'm sorry but all I know of Bridget Lynch is that she married James Galligan about 1820.  Daughter Margaret Galligan married Patrick (Peter) Leslie in Barony, Glasgow in 1853.  Patrick and Margaret both came from Co. Cavan.

Incidentally, my belated thanks to leprechaun for giving me the the Barony of Tullyhaw as the correct name for Tullaghlagh.
