Link: A fine Norfolk Map

There is a superb map of Norfolk

It is well worth scrolling down to access the 1880x1458 high-definition version (a 738kb download for the bandwidth impoverished, however).

Although the Climatic Research Unit of UEA may claim the map dates from 1830, it doesn't. It shows the railway link to Fakenham (completed in 1849), but not the further link to Wells (1857).

The map is also helpful (if only in determining the magistracies) in showing the 34 "hundreds".

In Derbyshire: Whysall and their distaffs. In Norfolk and Cambs, Piggott/Pigot and their distaffs. In Ulster and SW Scotland, Hendry, Maud and their links.
Census information may be Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk.

Hi John

The map you posted, is a copy from "the County Maps Of Old England" By Thomas Moule.

It states on the Fly Leaf of the book. "This new edition of Moule's Maps combines 56 coloured maps with the original text taken from "Barclay's Complete and Universal English Dictionary"
in which they appeared between 1842 and 1852.
The maps were first published in 1830 as the "English Counties".
The railways lines were put on to up date the earlier maps.
