James Family Llantillio Crossenny
« on: Wednesday 17 November 04 14:18 GMT (UK) »
I have Joseph James, who according to the family bible (according to another family member) was born in 1835 and living at Brook House, Llantillio Crossenny.  I have found an IGI for a christening for Joseph James 1 Jun 1838 parents Thomas James and Elizabeth.  Since 35 could look like 38 when written, I am wondering if this is him.  Has anybody access to 1841 or 1851 for Llantillio Crossenny?  I would love to find Joseph, parents and siblings to either confirm or deny my theory.

Thanks Rhys,
You have confirmed my theory for me - I had found an IGI for Frances and now she is confirmed as his sister.  Although I also found and IGI for a James James with the same parents who should show up as a five year old in 1841, perhaps he died in infancy.

Anyway- you are brilliant - thanks!

Hi Siouxzie,
I know this is an old thread but hopefully you may still be around (I mean the site not life in general).
Joseph James was my 2nd great grandfather. This is some of the information I have on him:-
1st June 1838 – Christened at Llantillio Crossenny, Monmouth.

1841 – Joseph James aged 3 Living at Llantillio Crossenny with Father Thomas James aged 65, Mother Elizabeth aged 50. Sister Francis James aged 10 also at property.

1851 – Joseph James aged 12, Farm Servant at Skenfrith

5th November 1859 – Marriage of Joseph James & Eliza Williams at Orcop, Herefordshire. (Elizabeth pregnant with Son William James at This time)

7th December 1859 – Son William James Born

1861 – Joseph James (Farm Labourer) aged 22 living in Orcopp, Herefordshire with wife Elizabeth aged 19 and son William James aged 1

There is much more regarding descendants and ascendants.

Kind Regards

Paul (James)

I have a connection with Joseph James of Llantilio Crossenny through son, William born 1859, Orcop, Herefordshire. I have traced Joseph's baptism in Llantilio Crossenny, but lose him, and Eliza, after the 1861 census. Can you throw any light on that?William is with his widowed Grandmother, Elizabeth, on the 1871 census. Also, She is aged 83 according to the 1871 census, but a Family Bible states she was75 when she died in 1875. She and her husband, Thomas, are buried at Llantillio, according to the same source. Any help/information will be gratefully received!
