Caution or not?
« on: Wednesday 17 November 04 17:58 GMT (UK) »
I received a message today from someone asking for help. There was no idea about what kind of help,or about what( the english was not very clear). The message aked me to reply to an e-mail address. The person who sent the message had only joined rootschat today and had not posted any requests.
I am concerned because if I reply to the e-mail address, my e-mail address is then known to this person, however I have received such a lot of help from this site that I would hate to think I wasn't" doing my bit to help others.
Any advice?
Linda

Why don't you set up a free e-mail account at Yahoo etc and use that for e-mailing people you don't want to have your primary address ?

I would suggest searching for the username and sending the user a personal message from within Rootschat.
Especially as you do not wish to divulge your email address.

Hope this clarifies  :D

If you can send me by personal message the username of the person, I can check things out for you too.

Linda,

Definitely caution - I received something similar recently, replied by pm, politely refusing to answer except by this method. Let trystan check it out.

I thought the general idea of a forum was so that everyone can see the request and anyone who might be able to help, can.

I certainly wouldn't respond to a PM asking me to mail anybody.

I agree D ap D with your comments  ;D However some individuals do prefer to correspond via instant message. I receive many messages this way myself regularly.

The point I am trying to make is if an individual seeks a particular individual to contact them directly, please use the rootschat facilities rather than emailing directly as this exposes your email address.

I hope you understand what I am trying to say.
Kindest Regards / Cofion Gorau
