Just for completeness sake, here's the full 1901

1901
RG13/2983 119 20
Birstall, Leicestershire
Birstall Hill

Matthew Surgey, head, 53, Fancy Glove Hand, b. Notts Arnold
Sarah A, wife, 43, b. Northampton
William, son, s, 21, Labourer, b. Scotland Hawick
Lizzie, dau, 19, Shoe Fitter, b. Leicester
Florrie, dau, 17, Shoe Fitter, b. Leicester Belgrave
Lilly, dau, 13, Shoe Fitter, b. Birstall
Hettie, dau, 11, b. do.
Horice, son, 8, b. do.
Eleanor, dau, 5, b. do.
Bertie, son, 2, b. do.
Archie, son, 2, b. do.

Bertie and Archie are marked as twins.

Now please do me a favour and ask for a 1881 Scotland look-up for this family  :D

LOL - I promise I'd have looked it up long ago if I had access !!  :D  :D

You'd need to start a new thread on the Scotland board, including the 1891 details we have found  :)  :)

Thanks Tati,

Before I go, can you give me a look up of the 1901 at
RG13/4303/78/2.  I have a note here that it lists the missing Clarence who is germaine to my Surgeys, but I've lost my note.

Thanks, Alex

Many thanks Tanja,

That was the item I needed.
Back to the drawing board, as this is where I came in...

Bonjour Alex  :)

You might have seen the outcome of above thread - they were in Scotland but Matthew jr. was not with them...

Just thinking : Do you actually have a marriage cert for Matthew jr. proving his father was a Matthew ?
