Huffer family census lookup and info
« on: Thursday 18 November 04 11:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi could anyone help me with this family. I am trying to find out descendents.

This is the family in 1881

Allen Huffer     Head   44   b. Ashwell Herts      Ag Lab
Mary Huffer     Wife     49  b. Litliington, Camb
Samuel  "        Son      18  b. Ashwell Herts      Ag Lab
Elizabeth "      Dau      13  b. Ashwell Herts      Straw Plaiter
Catherine "     Dau        7  b. Ashwell Herts

Living Back st, Ashwell, Herts

Could someone do a 1871 census check on this family and a 1891 if possible

In 1901 Allen is living with daughter Catherine ( Still in Ashwell).  Samuel seems to married to Emma and living in Kensington, London. Sam is a lamplighter
ELizabeth married George Newling in 1892 and I found them in the 1901 index under the name Lewling but there are 2 families on the same page so don't know whos children are whos. They were living Woods Green Middlesex.

I can't find any birth/Chr records for the 3 Huffer children if someone could enlighten me I would be eternally grateful.

Also a death record for Mary would be wonderful. I know I have a lot of asks on this page but if you can only answer one of my queries it will take me that bit further. thanks Anjo

Hi Anjo

This looks like them in 1871.

RG10/1359 Folio 108a

Back Street, Ashwell

HUFFER

Allen, Head, Mar, 34, Ag Lab, b Ashwell
Mary, Wife, 39, b Ashwell
Samuel, son, 8, Scholar, b Ashwell
Elizabeth, 3, b Ashwell (doesn't say daughter, but probably just forgot to write it down)

Back in a mo with the 91.

Here you go Anjo.  Have you ever been to Ashwell?  It is a beautiful place, one of the prettiest villages in Herts in my opinion.

I don't know if you have already found this, but Sally Watson looks up from Transcripts of the Ashwell PR's on the Hertfordshire Look--up Exchange.

1891 Census. RG12/1101 Folio 9

Back Street, Ashwell

HUFFER

Allen, Head, Mar, 54, Labourer, b Ashwell
Mary, Wife, 59, b Litlington Cambs.

I checked the NBI, but I couldn't see a burial for any of your HUFFERS or baptisms on the BVRI.

Hi there Rick you are one in a million. Thanks for all your help. I have never been to Hertford at all and its the first time any of my families have been there (that I know off) Its Mary that I was more interested in she was Mary Stanford born in Littleton, Cambridgeshire.
I am off to try the link you gave me. Thanks again for all your wonderful help. All the best Anjo

Hi Rick,  I have just realised that Catherine isn't on the 1891 census?
On the 1901 index she was living with Allen unmarried. Could I impose on you once more to see if you could find her she would be 17 and born in Ashwell.  Thank you kiindly Anjo

Anjo

I have had a trawl through the ancestry 1891 index, but I cannot find Catherine.  she is probably badly transcribed on the index.

Sorry

Found her!  The soundex on ancestry only seems to work with surnames and she is indexed as Kate.

Rick you are a true marvell. Thank you for all your time and trouble. It is a small piece of info but it means everything to me. I like to get all the info I can on a family. I really do thank you. All the very best Anjo

your family interests are in the wrong counties for me but if they ever strayed into Norfolk I  have several census that might be of use. And I have the 1841 of Cambridgeshire. Hopefully one day I might be able to repay your kindness. Thanks again Anjo
