PS. Can anyone read the word before Chemist in the 1861 ?

Operative perhaps?  ???

beats me - I wondered if it was Optic~~ian - but that seems a stranger mix than being a butcher 10 years earlier  !

Incidentally Steve, depending on what the marriage Cert reveals it might be worth getting the oldest childs Birth Cert to see what TC's occupation was then ....

I think operative chemist means the equivalent of a dispensing chemist - a pharmacist as opposed to a scientist or whatever other sort of chemists there might have been.

Since Mary Ann was a widow on the 1871 census and their youngest child was then aged 1 and there doesn't appear a death registration for a Thomas Charles is this him wrongly aged - 29 instead of 39?

Deaths Mar 1870
Morgan  Thomas  29  Greenwich  1d 567

Do you know what Thomas died from?

Regards

Valda

The fathyer of a Mary I saw - Thomas - was on the Census as a Labourer ..... not sure how you are going to correlate these 2 documents.

Maybe somebody else can look in 1851 for Thomas K, Carman ?

There is a baptism on the IGI http://www.familysearch.org of a Mary Ann KINGHORN 1830 Greenwich with parents Thomas and Mary Ann - I'm thinking that KINGHORN could quite easily be a mistranscription of KINGHAM as it would fit quite nicely.

I looked for the Thomas & Mary KINGHAM (as provided in the 1851 census above) to see if there was a change of occupation in the 1861 census but I couldn't see them.  The nearest I could see in 1871 is this couple - him a gardener and a change of birthplace:

1871

2 Magdala Terrace, Greenwich, Kent

Thomas KINGHAM head mar 69 gardener b.Greenwich
Mary wife 69 b.Greenwich

RG10/761 folio 23 page 40
.............................

1841

Woolwich Rd, Greenwich

Thomas KINGHAM 35 ag lab not born in Kent
Mary 30 not born in Kent
William 12 not born in Kent
Mary 10 b.Kent
Thomas 8 b.Kent
Joseph 6 b.Kent
Henry 2 b.Kent

HO107/489 folio 11 page 15
