Slater family of Danby
« on: Tuesday 02 January 07 22:02 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the Slater family of Danby.

I have managed to get back to Robert Slater (or Slaiter) who died in Danby in 1780 and I believe may well have come from Houlsyke, just down the road.  I would love to find out when he was born and perhaps his parents names.  I believe he married Elizabeth ? as I found her death stating her to be the wife of Robert and assume it might be mine.

His son William Slater was born in 1768 and married Mary Rear but I do not have a death date for him. My line of Slaters lived in Danby up until the 1850s.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year!

Hi Jane

I saw that one but did wonder if that might not be him as that would have made him 58 when he had his son.

Maybe I'll  see if any one is going to the Northallerton records office, if there is such a place!

Thanks

Hi

There is such a Records Office for Northallerton I go quite often, when I have got the boys back to school I will put a offer up for look ups for areas that Northallerton covers, you could try a request though, as someone may be going before I do.

Hi

Don't know if you have access to Ancestry but Danby PRs (1585-1812) are on there. There is one child, William, born and died 1753 son of Robert and Elizabeth Slaiter and a few more children (including William 1768) of Robert Sla(i)ter.  His burial record (Robert's) on 1 Sep 1780 says "of Hold Syke".

Cheers

Gina

Hi Gina
My access to Ancestry ran out in October but I did manage to find the info on Danby registers and thought Robert had been born in Skye in Scotland, until a kind person pointed out that Houlskye is just down the road from Danby!

Hi Joanna

I had a look through the Parish records for Danby at Scarborough library and the only Robert Slater I could see that was about the right age was the same one that Jane found on familysearch :

"Robertus Filius Johannis Slater 7 Die Decbris" 1710

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Best wishes

Ticker
