Hello csuk14,

A good site to use for Irish place names is www.thecore.com/seanruad but it doesn't show a place beginning with Lymm nor does it show Carriell or  Rosemarket. Where are these places ... is there another Ireland somewhere as they make little sense to me? Even substituting a "y" for the "i" and trying Carryell doesn't produce all that much. I'd prefer to say these place names are due to illiterate or impatient enumerators rather than blame the errors on a strong irish tongue.

The Murphy surname isn't going to make matters much easier. Co. Cork (2639) and Co. Wexford (1688) are the leading contenders for possible counties in which to start looking for your elusive ancestors ... there were only 338 families named Murphy in Co. Limerick. These figures, on Irish Ancestors website (Surname Search) are based on the surname distribution produced by studying Griffiths Valuations of Ireland 1848-64.

Carriell? Could that be Carrigtohill? The Valuations list a number of Murphys from that parish in Co. Cork.

I see what you mean about your problems. I think I'll sleep on the Lymm and Rosemarket.

There's a Lymm in Cheshire:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lymm
And a Rosemarket in Wales:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosemarket

Couldn't find a 'Carriell' anywhere. Are you sure the places are all in Ireland?
Years ago I was searching for an Irish family (parents  born in Co. Cork) and daughter's birthplace listed as 'Ireland' on every record I found except for first census record in U.S. where her parents said she was born in 'Cardiff, Ireland' and it turns out parents left Cork and moved to Cardiff before going on to America.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
