Figg Family from Ockley area
« on: Saturday 06 January 07 19:48 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me investigate my family of Figg from the Ockley area. I can trace back to my grandparents Harry Figg & Mary Honor Figg, but no further.

Thanks

Simon

Welcome Simon - can you flesh that out a bit ? Were they alive for the 1901 census ?

Take the old Newspaper approach - who, when, what, where etc !

Yes, my grandfather Harry Figg was born in 1900 and died 1948, my grandmother was born in 1913 and died in 1998.

OK, theres 3 or 4 heads of family in 1901 in that area - one a Harry, wife Edith - so I guess your chap is a younger generation ... how about this lad, the grandson of the Jenkins - so James Figg's wife Kate's maiden name was Jenkins.

Was Harry a twin ?....

Are you transcribing the 1901, Newfy?  ??? OK  ;D

Here's Harry's father James in 1881 in the meantime ...

So, what needs to be done now is find the marriage of your G'parents to confirm that the above truely is Harry - via his Fathers name on the Cert - and also Mary's Fathers name - as she was born after 1901, we wont see her on the census ....

any idea of where and when they married ?

All I know, about Harry Figg is the year of his birth and death, and that he was born at a house called Sheepgreen (or Sheep Green), near Jayes Park.

Not sure how we can link that info to the 11-months-later situation above !

Only by finding his Birth Cert I guess ....

I think we are OK - Wotton is up on the A25, about 3 or 4 miles due North of Ockley & Jayes Park. Abinger is in the middle ...
