Burns from Tonaphubble
« on: Tuesday 09 January 07 17:03 GMT (UK) »
Researching family of Patrick Burns and Bridget Madden. Left Tonaphubble 1845 and came to Glasgow with son Thomas (born Tonaphubble 1844). Have information on Scottish descendants but believe other children went from Tonaphubble to America in 1845.Any other information would be appreciated and info exchanged.

Hello Baird,

What denomination were Bridget and Patrick?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Thanks for the info Christopher. The family were married in Catholic Churches in Glasgow so I presume they were R.C. when they left Ireland. I think the research on the immediate family inthis branch has finished  now. I couldn't find out any more but I had a great time with contacts in the USA and researching the Gallipoli action where one of them was killed.
Thanks again.
